24 HALSEY CRESCENT LIVERPOOL L12 7HW 26th October '92 Dear Jonathan, At long last I have put together the information from our end of the family tree. Grace and I went down to Norfolk late September and had quite an interesting morning at Banham. The General Store cum Post Office at the corner of the Green is much the same as I remember it in 1927. I had quite an interesting chat with the ladies there and bought a well produced document/booklet titled 'Banham Heritage Register' put together by MSC Community Programme project, grant aided by the Countryside Commission - cost £4.50. A4 pages with plaatic rise binding plus a pocket with maps of the area. After talking to a couple of the locals, who incidentally had not lived in Banham longer than eight years, oae of them put me on to an old chap named Billy Race, who lives in the house next door to the Guildhall at the side of the Green, He had known my Grandmother - your Great Grandmother, also Mabel and Gertrude, your Grandmother's sisters. Gertrude married. Fred Beales, he was killed some years ago by a car whilst he was walking down one of the lanes. Billy Race - mentioned above - asked us where we came from, and when we told him Liverpool he said he had been there only a fortnight before. One of his Grandsons had married a Liverpool girl. He spoke highly of Liverpool people - makes a change. We went to Hunts Corner and I must admit I was a bit disappointed with the cottages as they had looked |

ever so much nicer with their thatched roofs than the present tiled, ones. I looked in the cottage window, but didn't knock. Hope you'll keep in touch, and should you ever be in Liverpool look us up. Give us a bell first and we'll make sure to be at home. Yours sincerely, Tommy Gorst Enclosed. Our family tree. |
